We have the perfect September shirt for you, and it’ll help people in more ways than one!
Let me explain, and back up a bit! As many of you may know, September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. And many of you know why this is a very important topic for us. Suicide is a subject that touches more than just our lives, but so many, and we want to talk about it.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death, and the 2nd leading cause of death among the ages of 10-34. Male suicides have been on the rise since 2000, and 4 times as many men die by suicide as women. In 2018 there were an estimated 1.4 suicide attempts, and on average, there are 132 suicides per day in the United States.
Furthermore, one in 5 American adults experience mental health issues. One in 10 young people experience a period of major depression. And, one in 25 Americans live with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression.
Mental health and suicide rates go hand in hand with 46 percent of people who die by suicide having a diagnosed mental illness.
So, what do we do about it? Where do we go form here with all of this information? We talk about it! We talk about it with our family, and our friends. We talk about it with people who don’t struggle with mental illness to raise awareness and help create empathy. We talk about it with people who do struggle to create safe places for uncomfortable conversations and build foundations of support. We talk about it with our doctors and our therapists to make sure that we are taking care of our mental health the same way we take care of our physical health. Suicide is not the answer. And we want you to know we are here to help.
So, for this month only, we have created a shirt to promote awareness, show our support, and create a monetary value for a charity near and dear to us.
With every purchase, 100 percent of the profits from this shirt will be donated, along with our annual donation, to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We want to affect change, be proactive, and create awareness, and we hope you can help!
